Vivo has started teasing its upcoming X500 series, which launches later this month. According to a post on Weibo, the vivo launch event will take place at 7pm on September 21, in a little less than two weeks. It’s said that this generation’s goal is to be “the first choice for photography, the only choice for video.”
The picture the account shared, showing the vivo X500 Pro Max, looks very similar to the X300 series, but there does appear to be an orange tint. This is a color that many Chinese phone makers chose to use last year, following the success of the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max in Orange. The image also shows that the telephoto extender lens is making a comeback in this generation. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone, since vivo has been doing this since the X200 Ultra in 2025.
A few other details we know about this phone are that it’ll have a 6.85-inch 2K display and the same 200MP telephoto sensor as the X300 Ultra from earlier this year. It’ll also be among the first to launch with MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset, the company’s first 2nm chip.
Techtember is in full force now
Now that IFA is officially over, Techtember is in full force. Later today, we have the iPhone event, with MediaTek and Qualcomm announcing their new chips in the next two weeks, and we also have a ton of other phone announcements coming from vivo, Xiaomi, and many others.
While vivo may not be the first to announce a phone with the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, they are likely to be one of the first. As MediaTek has already confirmed that the announcement is happening on September 15, that’s next Tuesday. It’ll be the second 2nm chip announced after Apple’s A20 Pro is announced today.
