Samsung’s One UI could be in for its biggest change yet. According to a new rumor, Samsung is working with Google on a redesigned software architecture that could eventually become “Galaxy OS.” If that happens, it would be a major shift for some of the most popular Android phones on the market.
According to SammyFans, a new claim suggests Samsung and Google are working together on a “redesigned OS architecture.” The first results would show up on the Galaxy S28 series in 2028. The phones would still launch with One UI, but the underlying architecture could lay the groundwork for an eventual switch to Galaxy OS.
The timing makes sense. One UI is set to hit version 10 in 2028, a natural point for Samsung to make a big change. This follows another rumor earlier this week that claimed Samsung could overhaul One UI and potentially replace it with Galaxy OS that same year.
Galaxy OS would still be Android underneath
Before anyone panics, this almost certainly doesn’t mean Samsung is ditching Android. Xiaomi has HyperOS, OPPO has ColorOS, and vivo has OriginOS, and all of them still run on Android. Samsung is one of the few major phone makers that doesn’t use “OS” in its software name.
That’s also why Google’s involvement matters. Samsung and Google already work extremely closely, from Galaxy AI features built on Gemini to Samsung shipping new Android features first. A deeper architectural partnership could help Samsung improve performance and deliver updates faster, which would matter far more than a new name.
Samsung has done a lot to improve One UI over the past few years. But there’s still room to grow, especially in speed and polish compared to the iPhone. A rebuilt foundation could be exactly what Samsung needs to close that gap, especially as it leans harder on its own Exynos chips.
Still, this is a very early rumor, and SammyFans doesn’t say where the claim came from. 2028 is a long way off, and the Galaxy S27 hasn’t even launched yet. One UI is also beloved by millions of Galaxy users, so any big change needs careful handling. Personally, I don’t care what Samsung calls its software. I care whether it gets faster and smoother. If Galaxy OS delivers on that, the name change is just a bonus.
