
After multiple leaks and rumors, Huawei has finally launched the Nova 16 series in China. Among the four smartphones in the series, the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra is the top-end model that comes with a bigger battery, a flagship-grade 200MP camera, and the company’s in-house Kirin chipset that places it above what most mid-range phones currently offer.
The Huawei Nova 16 Ultra packs 200MP primary camera, 6000 nits OLED display, and 7000mAh battery
The Huawei Nova 16 Ultra comes with a 6.84-inch LTPO OLED display and features a 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The display comes with Kunlun Glass protection and peak brightness rated at up to 6,000 nits. For those unaware, Kunlun Glass first emerged after Huawei abandoned Gorilla Glass protection back in 2023. The company claims that the display is 10 times stronger and more resilient compared to average OLED displays.
Speaking of durability, the Nova 16 Ultra comes with IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. Notably, the device boots HarmonyOS 6.1 out of the box. Under the hood, Huawei is using its in-house Kirin 9010S chipset. For those unaware, that’s the same chipset found in the standard model of the Huawei Pura 90 series. with the launch of the Pura series. Speaking of features, the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra comes with satellite messaging support in China. It allows users to send and receive messages via the Beidou satellite network when usual connectivity options are unavailable.
As far as optics are concerned, the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra sports a triple rear camera setup, featuring a 200MP RYYB main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and OIS support. Complementing it is an 88mm-equivalent 50MP telephoto camera with 3.7x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide macro lens. On the front, the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra features a 50MP selfie camera paired with a spectral sensor housed inside the pill-shaped cutout.
Pricing, availability, and colors
Besides the 200MP main camera, another highlight of the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra is its battery. The device comes with a 7000mAh battery and supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. Huawei is offering this smartphone in black, white, and sky blue color options. The base model featuring 256GB of storage costs CNY 4,699 ($695). Meanwhile, the other two variants with 512GB and 1TB of storage cost CNY 5,199 ($768) and CNY 5,799 ($857), respectively. Moreover, it’s worth noting that all variants come with 12GB of RAM and will be up for sale starting June 6 in China. The company is also working on the Huawei Mate 90 series smartphones, which might feature the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset.
