Google offers a “My Pixel” app on Pixel phones for users to learn about the phone’s features, including new additions delivered through the latest Pixel Drop updates. Beyond this, users can also get some helpful tips and even seek support to troubleshoot certain issues. There’s even a store where you can shop for new devices and accessories. In a way, the app lets users make the most of their phones. It seems like Google wants to make the My Pixel app even more useful, as it’s reportedly working on an in-app search mode.
Google is reportedly working on an in-app search tool for My Pixel
Google’s My Pixel app works like a hub for everything, including learning about new features, shopping for new devices, getting tips, and troubleshooting issues. With everything under one single roof, it’s understandable if finding something is hard. You have no option but to tap around all categories to find the answers (tips/features). Well, that might soon change.
Folks at Android Authority, while digging through version 8.5.1.920713064 of Google’s My Pixel app, have spotted early phases of work towards the in-app search mode. It’s worth noting that it’s in the development stage, so it’s not available to users yet.
Search results may also include store content
The strings in the app code suggest that the My Pixel search tool will reportedly have a codename “koda.” The app will likely suggest search queries when the feature launches. The strings show examples like “how to customize home screen,” “optimize battery,” and “screen spam calls.” Interestingly, there’s even a ‘phone cases’ example, which signals that results will include store content as well as usage tips.
Unfortunately, that’s as far as the publication could go in discovering new details of the search mode. They weren’t able to get the app to show the search mode in action. That said, it’s fairly easy to guess what it will do. A basic search tool would be very handy, especially for an app like this with so much information packed in.
That said, it’s not clear when it’ll arrive for the public. But we will make sure to update when that happens.
