Google Pixel first introduced Apple AirDrop support through Android’s Quick Share. The feature quickly gained attention since it fixes one of the biggest gaps between Android and iPhones. What once felt limited to Apple’s ecosystem is now reaching more Android devices worldwide. In the latest move, Xiaomi has now announced that it’s adding AirDrop compatibility via Quick Share through its latest HyperOS 3 update.
Xiaomi HyperOS 3 adds AirDrop support via Quick Share on compatible devices
On its official X post, Xiaomi has confirmed that it’s adding AirDrop support on its phones. The latest HyperOS 3 update adds cross-platform file-sharing support to eligible devices via Quick Share. In the uploaded video, the company showcased the Xiaomi 17T Pro with AirDrop transfer support, although the feature may expand to more HyperOS 3 devices over time.
Moreover, the Chinese tech giant has now announced which phones will be getting the AirDrop support. Under normal circumstances, the flagship models should get the update in the coming days. However, older models or budget phones may not officially support the AirDrop file transfer due to limited hardware capabilities.
More and more Android phones are getting official AirDrop support
The latest HyperOS 3 update, which adds AirDrop support, builds on the changes introduced with Android 16. Until now, the AirDrop file-sharing system has been restricted to the Apple ecosystem. Android users had to use third-party apps to send files to iPhones, which was not very convenient. Thankfully, that is finally changing as the latest Android phones are getting the official AirDrop support.
Samsung, OPPO, and Vivo have already added AirDrop compatibility via Quick Share on their latest flagship phones. Xiaomi has now become the newest brand to join the list. Android users will no longer have to resort to third-party apps or workarounds to send images and documents to Apple devices.
