HONOR Magic 9 Series Launch Date & Design Are Official — Unboxing Appeared as Well

Last month, HONOR announced that it would launch the Magic 9 smartphone in September. At the time, the company didn’t share the exact launch date, but it’s finally out now. In a Weibo post, HONOR officially confirmed that it will launch the Magic 9 series in China on September 28. In addition, the company has also opened pre-orders and confirmed the design and camera specs of the HONOR Magic 9. Going by the camera specs on paper, it seems HONOR is up for a fight with recent camera-heavy smartphones.

HONOR reveals Magic 9’s design and camera features ahead of September 28 launch event

As seen in the official design teaser post, the HONOR Magic 9 houses a large rounded rectangular rear camera module with three cutouts. The biggest rear cutout houses the telephoto camera, LED flash, and ARRI branding. Two additional cameras sit on the right in separate circular sections.

Up front, the pill-shaped opening houses the selfie camera and a 3D ToF sensor. Some reports in the recent past have suggested that the Pro models of the HONOR Magic 9 series might use an unusual square selfie sensor. HONOR hasn’t confirmed that just yet. Speaking of camera specs, the HONOR Magic 9 will feature a dual 200MP rear camera setup with different features. Previously leaked details have pointed out the same.

HONOR says that the main camera uses a 200MP 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.57 aperture. It is complemented by a 200MP 1/1.4-inch telephoto camera with an f/2.6 aperture. The company has further confirmed a new 500mm teleconverter kit that sits beside the existing 200mm teleconverter. On paper, these details suggest that HONOR is aiming for some serious long-range camera performance.

The back design appears inspired by last year’s iPhone 17 Pro models

Speaking of back design, the light-shaded, separated area below the camera housing on the HONOR Magic 9 looks somewhat similar to what we’ve seen on the iPhone 17 Pro models. The only difference is the color and the logo of the company that goes in it. The design teaser also confirms the Moss Green shade of the HONOR Magic 9.

On the front, HONOR appears to be going with a flat screen. Rumors are there that the HONOR Magic 9 could be the first, or at least one of the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s next 2nm Snapdragon chipset. While HONOR hasn’t confirmed the exact number of Magic 9 models, the company will also launch the Magic 9 Pro or Magic 9 Pro Max as part of the lineup.
