Google has finally patched an issue that left some YouTube users staring at a black screen. The issue reportedly affected both YouTube and YouTube TV users. The app would simply fail to load thumbnails. In some cases, it would display a completely blank screen with no information whatsoever, leaving users frustrated and confused.
Google finally releases a fix for YouTube black screen problem
The disruption affected both YouTube mobile app and YouTube TV users. While the complaints mainly emerged from users residing in Texas, it seems to be affecting users worldwide. On the normal YouTube app, the thumbnails would fail to appear properly. However, text and other items would remain intact, leaving portions of the homepage effectively empty.
For YouTube TV, the issue was even more frustrating. In some cases, the TV app would fail to load anything on the home screen. In others, it would fail to load video information. Basically, the users were left wondering what exactly was happening with no possible fix in sight. Some users added that clearing the cache and data of the app restored its function to normal, but the solution wasn’t permanent. Thankfully, Google has now officially fixed the following issue.
Google says the underlying problem has been resolved
As per the official statement, Google has fixed the underlying problem causing the issue. The company updated its support thread to confirm that YouTube TV should load normally again. On the YouTube app, video thumbnails should now appear as intended. The company has not explained exactly what caused the glitch, however, or provided details about what it changed to restore the service.
The fix has been done on the server side. This means users usually won’t have to install a separate update. However, if any update is available, then they must install it to ensure proper functioning. For now, though, the fix should mean viewers can get back to their videos without having to troubleshoot anything unusual.
