After seeing Stephen Curry wear it for a few weeks and plenty of leaks, Google has finally announced the Fitbit Air. This is Google’s new screenless wearable, set to squarely compete with the Whoop, which has become insanely popular as of late. Though Whoop made a big mistake with Whoop 5.0, after telling everyone upgrades were included, they were not.
Google says that the Fitbit Air is the smallest tracker that Fitbit has ever made. It’s a small pebble that drops into the band and sits on your wrist, and does its thing. There are no notifications buzzing you all day long, no display tempting you to check every five minutes, just insights synced with the new Google Health app on your phone.

Fitbit Air is available for pre-order today, shipping on May 26.
What the Fitbit Air actually does
Despite its size, the Fitbit Air can do a lot for you. It punches well above its weight, including 24/7 heart rate tracking, AFib alerts, SpO2, heart rate variability, full sleep stages, and automatic activity detection. Battery life is rated at 7 days, which is about half of what Whoop advertises, but a five-minute fast charge will give you enough power for a full day.
As you might expect, a big part of this is the Google Health Coach, which uses Gemini and comes with a three-month trial of Google Health Premium (Google’s new name for Fitbit Premium) out of the box. After that, it’s $9.99/month, which is still considerably cheaper than what Whoop is charging.
Google also has a lot of bands available at launch, and there will be more coming. This makes it easy to swap out the band for a different color, a different style, or even the Stephen Curry Special Edition, which costs $129.99. The Fitbit Air can still be paired with your Pixel Watch 4, so you can finally use two devices at the same time in the Google Health App. But it’s not going to give you better metrics by wearing both – like the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring offer.
Pre-orders for the Fitbit Air open today at $99. And they will hit store shelves on May 26.
