Google’s Pixel devices have a weird history with bugs, and one of the more annoying ones of late has been a battery drain bug that users were hoping would be fixed with the May 2026 update. Unfortunately, that update is here, and the battery drain issue isn’t fixed. For some added context, this battery drain issue seems to be different than another one that users were experiencing earlier this year.
The one that’s currently plaguing devices is one that popped up right after the March update went out early last month. However, there was a different battery drain bug that surfaced following the January update. That bug would reportedly manifest in Pixel 8 and later devices in certain situations. This new one doesn’t seem to require a specific situation to pop up on devices and is hitting the Pixel 7 all the way to the current Pixel 10 series.
The May Pixel update does include a fix for a different battery bug
While this week’s update doesn’t fix the main battery draining issue that users are dealing with, it does fix a battery bug. One that might have gone unnoticed by quite a few users. If you don’t use wireless charging, then you probably missed it. The bug in question would see wireless charging slow to a crawl when the phone’s battery got to between 75% and 80%. Not the biggest problem and certainly more manageable than a battery that drains quickly. Still, a bit of an annoyance for someone who uses wireless charging all the time.
Google hasn’t confirmed when it plans to roll out a fix for the battery drain bug. For now, all that Pixel users can do is wait patiently. There are some workarounds though. For example, you could slap a MagSafe-compatible power bank on the back of your phone to counteract battery drain. It’s not a fix. It will at least allow you to use the phone without worrying it might die on you.
