The Google Play Store gets an update every so often and these updates can include anything from performance improvements to new feature additions. Sometimes they’re only there to fix bugs and make the user experience more stable. Google has started pushing out the latest update for for the Google Play Store and an upgrade to performance is reportedly on the menu.
This will push users to Play Store version 52.1, and appears to be focusing on improving performance as well as adding a new feature and more clearly defining AI-generated content. That last bit is something that a lot of users will probably be happy about. Given that AI-generated content isn’t exactly universally loved by people around the world.
The Play Store 52.1 update improves performance with infrastructure changes
Google isn’t very specific about what the infrastructure changes look like or how they will improve performance. It does, however, state that performance improvements are part of the update for various platforms including Android Auto, Android TV, Android Phones, and Wear OS. So this is a sweeping update that applies improvements to all these platforms.
In addition to the infrastructure changes, Play Store version 52.1 will also add an “AI mark” to AI-generated images used for content within the store. This change will only be applying to phones though. The last new change, is essentially a new feature entirely. And it’s aimed at gamers.
With this update installed, mobile gamers will be able to watch content from creators and developers directly in the game with picture-in-picture support. This should be a nice bonus for gamers who likely to multitask.
The Android Headlines Take
Any update that improves performance is a good update. Having spent my fair share of time scrolling through the Play Store looking at apps and games over the years, nothing ruins the experience faster than slow UI interactions. Of course, it’s also nice that Google is adding new stuff for gamers, and taking gaming more serious in general.
