Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses, which we expect to see teased at Unpacked later this month, might get a feature that would pull you away from Meta’s glasses.
A new leak shows that these glasses could suggest music based on your surroundings. Basically, Spotify is working on some different integrations for Android XR-powered smart glasses. And once the app is linked to a user’s Google account, it will be able to use Gemini integration to control music playback, offer contextual music recommendations through playlists, and let users fine-tune playlists on the go.
On top of that, it can use input from the smart glasses camera to create music playlists that match the user’s surroundings and mood. Users will be able to ask Gemini to create Spotify playlists using natural language, eliminating the need to interact with your phone’s screen when you’re out for a walk or getting a quick run in.
All AI processing will be done on your connected phone, so it is technically on-device AI. But that does mean that your phone will need to remain nearby.
The Android Headlines Take
Samsung’s new smart glasses are set to go on sale this Fall, and we’re expecting a launch later this year. Though it is interesting to see all of the features that Samsung and Google are cooking up, as part of the Android XR platform. Really pushing these glasses beyond what Meta’s smart glasses can do. They should be able to steal a good chunk of Meta’s market share too.
With Samsung’s partnership with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, these glasses will likely be very, very popular. However, there’s still a lot of unknowns right now. We do know what they look like, with a pair that looks similar to the Ray-Ban Wayfarers that Meta has, but there will be countless other frame options available too. Other details like pricing have not yet been announced, unfortunately.
