Beyond the regular health tracking features, Samsung previously announced using its Galaxy smartwatches to help medical research. Now, a new system using Galaxy Watch data can help manage heat stress for outdoor workers vulnerable to heat waves. The tech giant has worked on the thermal stress management system in collaboration with South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor for businesses using the Galaxy Watch.

The company apparently developed this capability to align with the ministry’s heat wave response guidelines in accordance with its industrial safety policy to predict workers’ heat stress in advance. The solution combines environmental and Galaxy Watch biometric data to provide personalized heat-stress prevention.
A notification is automatically displayed on the manager’s dashboard whenever there’s an elevated risk of heat stress. This outlines the necessary prevention measures under the step-by-step work suspension standard. For instance, notifications appear if the perceived temperature exceeds 33°C, a heat wave warning if it’s over 35°C, and a severe heat wave warning if it exceeds 38°C. The manager can send a rest recommendation notification to the outdoor worker’s watch.

Samsung currently uses the system to manage heat stress for workers at its new Pyeongtaek semiconductor production line. The goal here is to prevent heat-related illness among workers. The company also notes that it has enhanced the reliability and predictive performance of this through industry-academia collaboration with Incheon National University. It also conducted clinical verification with Samsung Seoul Hospital.
Samsung plans to expand this into a wearable industrial safety model that other organizations can adopt. The goal here is to help protect outdoor workers during summer. But then, it’s currently in testing in South Korea at the moment, so you won’t see it.
