Samsung is developing a Galaxy SmartTag 3 tracker according to new reports, meaning it’s finally ready to move on from the second-generation model that it launched all the way back in 2023. The device isn’t official yet, but the Galaxy SmartTag 3 has surfaced in leaks this week, and the leaks shine a light on Samsung’s plans for a new smart tag design and some new functionality.
The Galaxy SmartTag 2 uses a pill-shaped design that’s elongated and has a sizeable hole at one end for hanging from key rings or carabiners, and it came in black and white color options. Like other smart tags such as Tile Trackers or Apple AirTags, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 is a means of keeping track if your stuff through a connected app. The Galaxy SmartTag 3 is getting a new design that resembles more of Samsung’s currently preferred flavor for style.

The squircle design is becoming a Samsung staple, at least with its smartwatches, and now Samsung is bringing that same style of shape and design to the Galaxy SmartTag 3. Images of the design found by SamMobile show off the tag in the form of diagram. The tag appears to feature some sort of LED ring that illuminates when the tag is connected, much like the LED lights that can be seen in the diagrams of the Galaxy Buds Able that popped up this week.
SamMobile states that the Galaxy SmartTag 3 doesn’t look like it has a key ring hole. It’s not clear if this was done with the intention of having customers buy accessories that would allow you to hang the new smart tag from stuff. There are also no details about what sorts of new features this new tag will have. It’s also not clear when you can buy the Galaxy SmartTag 3 or when it will be officially announced. You can still buy the Galaxy SmartTag 2.
