Android users have spent years waiting for Google to release its own first-party smart tracker to back up the expanded Find My Device network. Third-party alternatives from Samsung and Motorola filled the void. However, an official accessory directly from Google remained a missing piece of the hardware puzzle. That long wait appears to be ending very soon, as early retailer listings and leaked renders have fully exposed the upcoming “Google Pixel Tag” tracking accessory.
First uncovered by 9to5Google, the unannounced smart tag carries the model number GA12506 (or GA12506-WW) and features an official marketing shade named “Fog Light”—which will likely be shortened to “Fog” at release.
A Fitbit-inspired design with a built-in speaker
Unlike the circular puck shape of Apple’s AirTag or the squarish frames of competing Android tags, the Pixel Tag stands out with a taller, oblong silhouette. The design looks surprisingly similar to the core unit of a Fitbit Air tracker without its wristband.
Renders show a smooth exterior without an integrated key-ring hole or mounting loop. This indicates Google will roll out specific cases, keychains and holder accessories in a similar vein to Apple’s strategy with the AirTag.
Leaked marketing descriptions describe the device as a compact, lightweight, and durable accessory built to attach discreetly to keys, wallets, or luggage. The tracker features a loud built-in speaker alongside built-in privacy safeguards to protect personal tracking data.
Pricing, technical expectations, and August 12 event
Early European retail listings put the Pixel Tag at a price point close to €30. This hints at a competitive $30 price tag for the US market. However, a few hardware details remain unconfirmed. Supply chain leaks have not yet specified whether the tag includes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support or Bluetooth Channel Sounding for precision directional tracking. We also don’t know if it runs on a replaceable coin-cell battery rather than a rechargeable system.
The leak arrives right on time as Google prepares for its upcoming hardware event on August 12. The Google Pixel Tag could share the stage with the Google Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro smartphones.
