WhatsApp, a popular messaging platform, is reportedly testing a new feature that automatically moves messages from large businesses into a separate folder. This will help users better manage personal chats and separate them from business messages. WhatsApp says the feature is designed to reduce inbox clutter while also making it easier for users to find and manage important updates.
WhatsApp may get a new folder that will store messages from businesses
During Meta’s Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said other revenue in the family of apps segment crossed $1 billion. Further, the executive said that the growth was mainly driven by WhatsApp subscriptions and paid messaging services. It was also highlighted that more and more businesses are using WhatsApp to deliver updates, messages, and promotional texts.
However, the increasing number of texts from businesses has also cluttered the user’s inbox. It has made it harder to the user to manage chats. To solve this, the tech giant is reportedly testing a new “Offers & Updates” folder that automatically moves messages from larger businesses after a set period. The firm is currently testing different time limits of up to 24 hours before messages are moved.
Users have full control over the feature
Users who prefer to keep all the conversations on their main chat list can disable the feature. Once turned off, the app will no longer store business messages in the folder. WhatsApp says the new separate folder keeps promotional offers and routine updates out of the main inbox. It also makes them easier to find later.
As of right now, the company is testing the feature with selected partners on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Small businesses and individual WhatsApp Business accounts are not included for now. However, Meta says it may expand the feature to more eligible business accounts in the future. The testing is part of the company’s efforts to improve its platform and help its users better manage personal and business communications.
