
Samsung has shown off a new type of wide view OLED display panel technology this week that as the name suggests, promises wider viewing angles which can lead to several benefits over the current panel technology being used.
Samsung has reportedly shown off this new display, alongside other display innovations it’s been working on, at the International Meeting on Information Display 2026 expo that is taking place at BEXCO in Busan, South Korea this week. The expo began on August 18 and goes until August 21. The wide view display panel tech isn’t the only display technologies that Samsung is showing off at the event. It’s also showcasing innovations in laptop displays, PC monitors, and even flexible displays that could be used on humanoid robots.
Additionally, Samsung is showing off sliding displays. The company’s setup at the expo envisions the display being used for a vehicle’s infotainment display center. Another setup shows a new 16-inch 300Hz WQ OLED laptop panel. Samsung had a 34-inch QHD+ QD-OLED with a 360Hz refresh rate on display as well.
The Samsung wide view OLED could help prevent brightness degradation at the foldable display crease
Samsung is constantly revamping its display tech with new and improved offerings, and its new wide view OLED panel is partially aimed at fixing brightness degradation in current foldable displays that happen at the crease location. According to Samsung, the wide view display is capable of resolving the issue of side brightness degradation.
“The Wide View Display is the latest wide viewing angle technology capable of resolving the issue of side brightness degradation in the folding parts of foldable smartphones or the curved edges of edge displays. Applying this technology allows for the realization of uniform image quality without brightness differences based on viewing angle in next-generation form factor products such as foldable, slidable, and rollable displays,” a Samsung Display official said.
