Samsung is reportedly taking advantage of supply and demand by increasing prices on chip technology by up to 15%, as the demand for components continues to rise. AI data centers are choking the supply as their demand for more chips has constricted what manufacturers have on hand for the entire industry. Companies like Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix have severely cut back on producing chips for non-commercial customers. Meanwhile, this has led to a potential rise for Chinese memory companies, as companies like Apple seek to turn to alternatives due to higher costs.
Chinese companies that need RAM chips to produce products are said to be among the companies willing to pay the biggest price increases that Samsung is implementing. The US government’s block of exporting advanced chip-making equipment to China has resulted in companies within the region needing to seek other options from outside the country. China has grown to be a huge customer of Samsung’s. In March of 2025, it was reported that China had surpassed the US as Samsung’s biggest chip customer, having spent around $44 billion on the technology.
Samsung chip prices are increasing across the board
According to a new report from Reuters Samsung is increasing chip prices across the board, with prices varying depending on the chip. Chip prices were raised by anywhere from 10% to 15% on Samsung’s 5nm chips while a smaller increase was applied to chips using its 8nm process. Prices on these chips went up by almost 10%, according to the report.
Chips using the company’s 4nm process also went up anywhere from 10% to 15% but mainly for customers in the US and in China. Taiwanese customers seeking Samsung’s chips only saw prices rise by 5% to 10%. Demand for chips is expected to stay high, with Samsung and other companies confirming that they expect the memory crisis to last through 2028.
