Samsung is reportedly working on a pair of smart glasses that are based on the Android XR platform. If we believe the reports, these devices carry the codenames “Jinju” and “Haean”, with the latter being a more premium offering. While Samsung is yet to officially confirm the existence of these products, it has accidentally leaked some key details about one of these Galaxy glasses via an update to the Nearby Device Scanning app.
An app update may have confirmed the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Glasses moniker
Samsung recently updated the background device scanning app, Nearby Device Scanning, on its phones. Through the update, the company accidentally left a major clue in the release notes. The official text clearly mentions support for a new wearable product simply called Glasses. So, the new app update leak indicates that Samsung will market the new wearable simply as “Glasses” or “Galaxy Glasses”.
For those unaware, Nearby Device Scanning is a basic system tool that runs in the background on most modern Galaxy phones and tablets. When the brand released a routine update for this software, it forgot to hide some upcoming features from the public changelog. The update notes state that the app now supports connecting to Glasses. This tiny detail is important because the brand has never officially confirmed the name of its new Android XR product before.
Additionally, the update to the app suggests that the upcoming glasses will feature support for Samsung’s Quick Pair. This functionality is identical to Google’s Fast Pair for Bluetooth-powered accessories. Furthermore, the changelog indicates that the smart glasses will offer the means to quickly check the remaining battery life.
The design of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Glasses has already leaked
We recently exclusively published a few renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Glasses. As you can see in the image, the commercial product could look a lot like the Meta Ray-Bans or the Google Gemini Glasses. The photos reveal that the new Samsung wearable won’t have a display.
As for the features, our sources suggest that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 chip and a 155mAh battery will power the Samsung Galaxy Glasses. It will house a 12MP Sony IMX681 camera, directional speakers, Photocromic transition lenses, and tip the scale at around 50 grams. Other specs could include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and built-in support for Google’s Gemini.
