A release of GTA 6 Online, or whatever it ends up being officially called, has not been confirmed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, but the latter has reportedly hinted at how long of a wait gamers are looking at. And it’s not anytime soon.
With the release of the currently available GTA Online, Rockstar didn’t even wait a full month before releasing the online mode. It was pushed to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles on October 1, 2013. GTA 5 was released for those consoles on September 17, 2013. Not even a full two weeks, and players already had access to the online game mode. This time around, that won’t be happening.
Take-Two has suggested that it’s going to be much, much longer than that before a GTA 6 equivalent to GTA Online is available for players, with the core game hitting PS5 and Xbox Series X later this Fall.
Take-Two plans to support GTA Online after the GTA 6 release
During a shareholder meeting this week, Take-Two has reportedly stated that it plans to continue supporting GTA Online, even after the release of GTA 6 on November 19. Over on the ResetEra forums, user Nicoreese posted a direct Take-Two quote from the meeting. “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November. We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI release and beyond,” Take-Two says.
There’s no mention of an actual release date, or even a release window, however, Take-Two clearly says that it’s plans are to continue supporting GTA Online well after the release of GTA 6. This comment about GTA Online’s continued support beyond GTA 6’s release seems counter to a past rumor that Take-Two and Rockstar’s plan was to release the new GTA 6 Online within a month of the base game, which would put the Online release somewhere in December of this year. Take-Two Rockstar have put a lot of focus on the aspects and new features coming to GTA 6 though. And with its delays and long development time, a GTA 6 Online release could simply bring the core game out of focus.
