
Unpacking the exact silicon inside a newly announced smartphone can sometimes feel like solving a puzzle. The upcoming Vivo X500 is turning out to be a perfect example. While buyers might expect a shiny next-generation chip under the hood, fresh performance benchmarks suggest that the global edition of the Vivo X500 is actually running on last year’s Dimensity 9500 rather than the newly announced Dimensity 9600M.
According to a Geekbench 7 listing spotted by tech tipster Anvin, the global Vivo X500 (model number V2619) was tested running Android 17 with 12GB of RAM. The performance breakdown details an All-Big-Core CPU layout featuring a prime ARM C1-Ultra performance core running at 4.21 GHz, three high-performance cores at 3.50 GHz and four efficiency cores at 2.70 GHz. In charge of graphics processing is an ARM Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU.
Decoding the motherboard identifier mystery
The core detail comes down to the underlying motherboard tag embedded within the test data. Tech tipster Anvin pointed out that the benchmarked unit carries the k6993v1_64 identifier tied specifically to the Dimensity 9500. If you’re not aware, the newly announced Dimensity 9600M utilizes the k6993v2_64 string. This hardware identifier strongly implies that the global base model of the Vivo X500 is built around last year’s flagship processing platform rather than the newer silicon.
In practice, however, the technical differences between these two processors are minimal at best. MediaTek designed the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro as a true next-generation architecture for top-tier flagships. Meanwhile, the 3nm Dimensity 9600M functions essentially as a refreshed Dimensity 9500. Aside from updated software integrations, fresh marketing names, and OEM cost considerations, the primary hardware components remain practically identical.
Matching performance across the board
The underlying architecture is virtually the same across both chips. So, real-world user performance will be largely equivalent regardless of the label. Both platforms support fast LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, and MediaTek’s NPU 990 to handle complex agentic and generative AI tasks. They also share identical display and camera capabilities. Basically, they easily drive high-refresh WQHD+ panels up to 180Hz while supporting 320MP camera sensors and smooth 8K video processing.
Both the base Vivo X500 and the upcoming OPPO Find X10 are slated to use these 3nm MediaTek processors. On the other hand, their respective “Pro Max” tiers step up to the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro. Regardless of whether the global Vivo X500 uses the original board identifier or the updated name, real-world capability should closely match the 9600M across all standard tasks.
