Amazon has added a new feature to Prime Video called Clips, and it’s a way for subscribers to view and enjoy short-form video content on the streaming service. Short-form video content has exploded in the past several years thanks to the emergence of apps like TikTok, which other platforms like YouTube, as well as Meta’s Facebook and Instagram have replicated.
Amazon says that Clips delivers “quick hits” of video content that can be used to pass the time when you have just a few minutes to kill. Much like you would use YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels for when you’re standing in line waiting to pick up a prescription. Unlike those options, however, Clips should include content from familiar TV shows and movies. Amazon started Clips with NBA highlights, which honestly fits. It’s the perfect medium for catching up on top plays from games you may have missed. It’s also one of several new features Amazon has tried to improve Prime Video with. Last year it launched AI-powered recaps, a feature which it pulled not more than a month and a half later due to backlash.
The Prime Video Clips feature is live now for Prime subscribers
If you’re eager to check this feature out for yourself, Amazon says it’s live on the mobile app now for Prime subscribers. The addition of Clips might seem like an odd choice for Prime Video but according to Amazon it’s an attempt at improving the Prime Video experience on mobile. More and more users are choosing to watch content on their mobile devices and with bigger screens on phones these days, it’s understandable.
That being said, you don’t exactly always have 30 minutes to an hour to spare for watching content on your phone, especially if you’re doing so while running errands or waiting in line. This is where short, bite-size clips make sense. The Clips feature can be a great way to check out certain movies or shows that you may have considered watching.
Amazon even makes it easy to share Clips you like with others. Sharing supports a variety of messaging apps. Amazon says you can share through your preferred platform. You can even share through email, likely via copied links.
