Pixel Screenshots is one of the intriguing apps for Pixel owners because it can help you search through a mountain of screenshots saved on your phone, and while it currently uses on-device AI for this, soon it’ll have the ability to use cloud-based AI processing.
This shift should speed things up a bit, but Google isn’t moving away from on-device AI entirely. Instead, it’ll use cloud-based AI for those times that internet connectivity is available. Which is likely most of the time. If your phone doesn’t have a connection, then on-device AI can still be used to help you search through your screenshots and find what you’re looking for.
Pixel Screenshots is great because if you save a lot of screenshots to your device, it can be a daunting task to go through them all. Not to mention the added challenge if you want additional information on stuff in the screenshots. This is what the Pixel Screenshots app does for you.
Pixel Screenshots cloud-based AI processing data can’t be seen by Google
One of the big things Google has highlighted when it comes to its hardware using on-device AI is security and privacy. With on-device AI, your data is only being processed on the hardware in your hands. The major factor here being that outside sources, such as Google itself, won’t have access to that information.
That narrative changes a little with the new cloud-based processing option. However, Google still assures users that their information is safe. Furthermore, that Google can’t see any of that information. While some users may have the latest version of Pixel Screenshots, which is reportedly version 1.26.134.11, it’s not available for all. The majority of users don’t appear to have received this update. That being said, it could arrive fairly soon. It’s also important to note that you can still disable to AI feature entirely. This will be available as a toggle within the app’s settings.
