The OnePlus 16 camera hardware could end up disappointing quite a few people, if the latest rumor is to be believed. OnePlus Club has shared the camera sensors that the OnePlus 16 is expected to use, and… they’re not exactly bleeding edge.
The OnePlus 16 camera sensors have just surfaced
According to the source, the main camera on the phone will be a 50-megapixel LYTIA 710 sensor. That is a 1/1.56-inch camera, and it’s not exactly used in many flagship smartphones, especially ones that are camera-focused.
It’s a solid camera sensor, but it’s a far cry from the LYTIA-901, a 1/12-inch camera sensor that both the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra opted for.
The source also shared a periscope telephoto camera that the company is tipped to use. Samsung’s ISOCELL HP5 sensor is mentioned, that is a 1/1.56-inch camera sensor. This is not a bad option for a periscope telephoto camera, but it’s also not the best of the best.
The phone’s ultrawide camera was not mentioned in the report. We’re not sure how accurate the provided information is, but there you go. We’d certainly love to see better camera hardware being used in the device.
The OnePlus 16 is not supposed to be a camera flagship, so this kind of makes sense
Then again, the OnePlus 16 is not supposed to be a camera flagship. It’s also supposed to keep its price in check. So OnePlus has to cut corners somewhere, and the most efficient way is to do it in the camera department.
Don’t get me wrong, the phone could end up offering really good camera performance with this hardware- far from it. I can already see people complaining left and right, though, as the expectations from OnePlus flagships are quite high.
The OPPO Find X Ultra series is positioned as THE camera flagship from OPPO-OnePlus, and then the OPPO Find X Pro series. It seems like OnePlus’ flagship is third in line when it comes to camera-oriented phones from the two companies.
