With One UI 8.5 expanding to most (if not all) of the eligible devices, Samsung is busy with the next major update, One UI 9, which will be based on Android 17 OS. It’s already available in beta form for the Galaxy S26 series. Among the many new features that Samsung’s One UI 9 may bring to the table, one of them could be an easy way to summon the Bixby assistant.
Samsung may bring a faster way to summon Bixby with One UI 9
With the One UI 8.5 update, Samsung upgraded its in-house AI assistant (Bixby) with more smarts and the ability to understand natural language commands. At the moment, if you want to trigger Bixby, you can do so by pressing and holding the power button or using a hotword. With One UI 9, Samsung may bring a new way to summon Bixby.
Folks at SamMobile have discovered Samsung will add a new Gesture Wake-up feature for Bixby AI. This is likely to arrive with One UI 9. When it’s enabled, you simply have to pick up your phone and bring it closer to your face to activate Bixby. You don’t even have to say “Bixby” or “Hi Bixby.” Just start talking to Bixby and issue voice commands.

Faster than saying the Bixby hotword
This approach is evidently faster than saying the Bixby hotword and following it up with a question/command. It’s not clear if this will consume excessive battery at the moment. Even if it does, it seems like a reasonable trade-off considering you’re getting quicker access to Bixby. That is, considering it works reliably.
The report notes that this feature isn’t available in the second One UI 9 beta for the Galaxy S26 series. It may arrive in a future beta update or the stable release. One UI 9 may debut alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8.
