Phishing attacks often rely on deceptive web URLs that mimic legitimate websites to trick users into revealing personal information, sensitive data, or financial details. Unfortunately, these attacks have become increasingly common these days and are taking a more sophisticated form. To tackle some of that headache, the makers of NordVPN have launched a new AI agent, NordBot, that’s designed to detect suspicious content across social/messaging apps.
NordBot AI agent can analyze suspicious content to detect scams
NordBot tool helps users to check suspicious texts, URLs, and images before they click, reply, or forward to someone else. The most common trick in the books for attackers is to impersonate a trusted brand, support team, or even fake giveaways to trick people into sending money or clicking malicious links. This new tool from NordLabs helps detect such scams and prevent them from causing any harm.Â
So how does NordBot AI agent work? When you come across something that looks suspicious, you can just send that content to NordBot via a supported platform and get a safety assessment before you click/reply/share.
One advantage of NordBot is that it works directly within the platforms where conversation happens. It currently supports Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, X, and WhatsApp (+1 940-616-6302). Reddit support is reportedly coming soon. Depending on the platform, you can send NordBot content in a direct message or tag it under a public post or reply. On X, you can only use NordBot by tagging AskNordLabs in a reply.

NordBot only checks the specific content you send it before replying with a quick safety verdict. It classifies the content into one of four clear categories. Safe if the content does not show clear signs of danger. Suspicious if the content contains elements that deserve caution. Dangerous if the content appears likely to be harmful or deceptive. Lastly, AI-generated if the content appears created or heavily altered using AI.Â
However, the company warns that NordBot can be wrong, like any AI tool. The goal here is not to replace your judgement but to give you a second opinion. So use your best judgment. Always avoid sharing passwords, payment details, one-time codes, or any other sensitive information with unknown people.Â
Domininkas Virbickas, Product Director at NordVPN, reportedly confirmed to TechRadar that NordBot is built on the same scam-detection technology and link-checking engines used in NordLabs’ existing tools. The key addition is its ability to detect AI-generated images by extracting and analyzing the text they contain. NordBot is completely free for all and doesn’t require any subscription.
