When Google first started adding Gemini to Chrome for desktop, the promise was that users were getting an AI assistant with intelligence that works with you, and now that functionality is coming to Android. It would grab snippets of the most important information on web pages and give you summaries that were straight to the point. It had the capability to compare options and automate your tasks.
All with the intent on simplifying your browsing experience and making it a super useful tool that seamlessly blends in with your normal browsing habits. You can even use Gemini in Chrome to modify a recipe to meet your dietary needs. Today, Google has announced new features coming to Gemini in Chrome that will further help supercharge the browsing experience. Google says this will be rolling out to select devices running on Android 12 or later, so that should actually be a decent number of different models at this point.
Gemini in Chrome on Android will be getting an Auto Browse feature
One of the new features being added is called Auto Browse. Technically this was available before now but only in a preview mode for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Now it’s rolling out outside of the preview, though Google confirms you will still need an AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription. This will also be exclusive to the US initially and it requires Android 12 or later just like the other features. With Auto Browse, can have Chrome do things like find you parking spots or update online orders of stuff. It’s Google’s way of helping you automate a task that you would normally do yourself but might not always have time to do.
You can also use it to do things like turning a page into an infographic to summarize its contents into a more visual depiction of what you’re looking at. All powered by Gemini’s Nano Banana. Google says Gemini in Chrome for Android was also built with the same protections that desktop users enjoy, so you can feel safe about using it.
