
As many of you know, The Android Show I/O Edition is currently taking place, and Google packed it with some interesting announcements. One of those announcements nobody expected, pretty much.
‘Noto 3D’ are Google’s new emoji
Google just announced Noto 3D, a brand new emoji collection. Google’s emoji has evolved quite a bit since the innocent blob emoji of the 2010s, as Noto 3D represents another step in a different direction. You can check the new emoji below.
Google says that Noto 3D emoji are supposed to “bring a touch of physicality” to the experience. Google believes that emoji can do a better job of expressing our emotions, as Noto 3D emoji are supposed to shorten that gap.
The company says that there’s a big difference “between a message received and a presence felt.” These Noto 3D emoji will be available across Google, the company says, starting with Pixel phones later this year.
Google added a 3D touch to the existing emoji
These emoji, as you can see, are very similar to the old ones. Google simply added a 3D touch to them compared to the previous set, that’s it. These are not exactly brand new icons in a sense. In terms of what’s better, well, that’s personal preference, definitely. The old emoji are shown below, so you can compare.
