Ever since Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, many left-handed people around the world (including yours truly) have been wondering if maybe there’s a way to change the settings to make it more lefty-friendly. Unfortunately, a recent video by bytereview shared on Instagram suggests otherwise.
No left-handed use for iPhone Duo
In the video, Tom Hitchins from bytereview attempted to show how a left-handed person might use the iPhone Duo. Some good and bad news is that it works just fine, but you might need really big hands or a very long and flexible thumb.
Now, obviously swiping between screens as a left-handed person works just fine. However, when it comes to reaching for the repositioned dock located on the right side of the phone, that’s where it gets tricky. In Hitchins’ case, it worked out fine, although he had to stretch a little. But it definitely isn’t as comfy compared to right-handed use.
According to Hitchins, he’s right-handed, but decided to put the video together to show what it might be like for left-handers. So, if you’re someone that uses their phone primarily in their left hand, it might be a stretch (quite literally).
Will Apple address this?
That being said, since the iPhone Duo hasn’t been released yet, we’re not sure what kind of settings are available on the phone. Could there be some settings that cater towards left-handers? After all, this is an accessibility feature, something that Apple champions. However, we’re a bit doubtful.
This is because on the cover screen, the new status bar and dock sits below the hole-punch camera. Bringing that to the right will cause some apps to sit underneath the hole-punch cutout. That’s obviously a no-go. However, opening up the phone is a different story. In that scenario, left-handed use seems like a possibility.
Either way, we’ll probably know more once the phone has been released. Apple is currently set to open pre-orders on October 16, 2026. Based on what we’ve been hearing, it is expected to sell out incredibly fast. That’s impressive given how much Apple is charging for it.
