iOS 27 is now available to download on iPhone 11 and newer.
After being announced at WWDC back in June, iOS 27 is now finally available to download on millions of iPhones worldwide. iOS 27 is more of a bug-fixing update, though it does bring Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence features, as you might expect.
It’s important to note that Siri AI and Apple Intelligence are only available on iPhone 15 Pro and later, largely due to the RAM needed to run these features.
Siri AI is the biggest upgrade Siri has ever gotten. In fact, it actually makes Siri worth using, after nearly 15 years. Siri is essentially a chatbot now; while it was trained in part by Google, it uses Apple’s Foundation Models under the hood. This is why the answers Siri AI provides differ from Gemini’s. You can talk and type to Siri; there is also a new Siri app that will be installed when you upgrade to iOS 27. This allows you to revisit previous conversations when needed.
Huge performance improvements, including 80% faster AirDrop transfers
A big part of iOS 27 is the performance improvements, headlined by AirDrop transfers that are 80% faster. This is great and all, but AirDrop still fails way to often, hopefully that has been addressed as well.
With the performance improvements, we’re also getting faster window closing in iPadOS, faster HomeKit accessory pairing, faster Apple Music playback start, faster message loading in Mail, faster data updates in the Health app, among many other improvements.
The update is available starting today. Just head into Settings, tap General, then Software Update, and you should be able to download the iOS 27 update. This is going to be a pretty big one, so it’ll take some time to download and install.
