So, you’ve equipped your home with smart devices. Your lights are smart, your doorbell is smart, your home security cameras are smart, and your blinds are smart. But what about the way you control them? Using your phone works, but what if there was a more centralized way to control them? That’s where the Homey Portal comes in.
Meet the Homey Portal
The Homey Portal is a small round device with a 2.8-inch touchscreen and a stainless steel dial. At a glance, you might mistake it for the Nest Thermostat, but that’s where the similarities end. The Nest Thermostat controls your home’s HVAC, whereas the Homey Portal controls, well, everything else.
Athom says it can sit on a desk or mount on a wall. According to Athom, each device gets assigned to one zone in the house, like the kitchen or the living room. This means anyone standing nearby can then control the devices in that space without opening an app.
A simple tap turns the lights on or off, sets a mood, or picks a single light to adjust. You can also twist the ring to set the brightness. It can even show you what’s playing on connected speakers, including Sonos and Denon Heos. Turning the dial changes the volume.
The screen doubles as a thermostat control for compatible systems, including Nest, Tado, and Honeywell. It also shows real-time energy use, pulled from meters like Shelly and HomeWizard, so you can see which appliances are costing you money. Athom says the users can trigger existing Homey Flows too. This includes the ability to pull up a video feed when someone rings the doorbell.
Pricing and Availability for Homey Portal
If you’re interested in the Homey Portal, it is up for pre-order now for €249. However, note that this is an introductory price for the first production batch. Athom says the regular price jumps to €299 once that batch sells out. Orders are expected to start shipping before the end of 2026, and they’ll go out first-come, first-served.
The device works with Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, and Homey’s self-hosted server option. Homey Cloud covers up to five devices for free. You’ll need Homey Premium if your setup has grown past that. It also supports Philips Hue and IKEA’s growing lineup of Matter devices right out of the box.
