It’s taken quite a few years but Google is finally launching an Apple AirTag competitor with the upcoming (and unannounced) Pixel Tag, and while Google is expected to officially announce this device on August 12 at its annual Made by Google Pixel event, pricing details have now leaked about the device.
Since this is a tracker tag, it’ll cost somewhere in the realm of what similar devices cost, but now thanks to a new report from Billbil-kun Dealabs (via Android Authority), the actual price, at least for Europe, has been revealed so there’s no more need to wonder. Based on the information in the report, the Pixel Tag will cost consumers €34.99 in Europe.
The leaked Pixel Tag pricing doesn’t mention other regions
It’s still unknown what the Pixel Tag is going to cost in regions like the US, but the reports speculate what consumers are most likely looking at. In the US, for example, Android Authority speculates that Google might price the Pixel Tag at about $29. This would keep its pricing competitive with Apple’s AirTag, which costs exactly $29 in the US. For reference, AA comes to this conclusion it says, based on Apple’s price for the AirTag in Europe, which is €35, making it just €0.50 more than the leaked price that Dealabs mentions.
So the thought process is that Google is going to try and directly compete with Apple on the price of its new tag device. In addition to the pricing, Dealabs states that Google will indeed announce the Pixel Tag during its August 12 event. It also mentions the color, which is reportedly called Light Fog. This is the only color mentioned. Having said that, Google does offer multiple colors of just about every device it’s ever released. As for Pixel Tag features, these are all still unknown at the moment.
