The next new Pixel Fold phone, which doesn’t have an official name yet given that the Pixel 11 Pro Fold just came out on August 20 after an August 12 reveal, is rumored to be coming with a crease-less display. This is the same type of display that reports have suspected would be coming on Apple’s upcoming (and also unannounced) iPhone Ultra foldable, which will be the company’s first foldable smartphone since foldables became a thing.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses what Google calls the Super Actua Flex display technology, which is a folding OLED panel used for the inner display. The Pixel 12 Pro Fold, as it’s being referred to in one of the reports, would use a display tech that is similar to what Apple is suspected to be using for the iPhone Ultra, or whatever Apple will end up officially calling it.
The next Pixel Fold phone from Google will use a new display tech called dual-UTG displays
According to The Elec (via 9To5Google), the next Pixel Fold phone will use dual Ultra Thing Glass displays, and is reportedly working with Samsung Display on the display implementation. Samsung Display is reportedly working with partners to build these dual-UTG displays for their respective devices. Google is also but one partner, with Oppo and Vivo working with Samsung Display for dual-UTG displays on their upcoming foldable phones as well. Both brands are reportedly going to release their new foldable phones in the first half of 2027, so they would be out prior to the Summer, and likely before Google’s.
The dual-UTG setup is not too different from the method Samsung uses on the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The main difference is that dual-UTG setups have an ultra thin glass layer above and below the OLED panel, whereas Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 replaces the bottom UTG layer with a thin titanium alloy film.
