If you’ve ever felt annoyed at how many online forms we have to fill up, then we might have some good news for you. According to the reports, it looks like Google is getting ready to give Chrome a much-needed autofill upgrade.
Chrome is getting a Gemini-powered autofill upgrade
It appears that Google is testing out a new feature in Chrome Canary. This feature is called “Find and Fill with Gemini,” which as the name suggests, will rely on Google’s Gemini to help you automatically fill out online forms.
Now, modern-day browsers are no stranger to autofill. However, this can sometimes feel like hit or miss. This is because it relies on stored information that you previously saved, meaning that newer or more contextual information might not be used. But with this Chrome autofill upgrade, it uses Gemini to pull that information from various Google services.
We’re talking about services like Gmail, Photos, and other connected apps. This means that when it comes to filling out forms, Gemini will make the process smarter and more contextually relevant. Users can launch it simply by typing “@@” in the text field.
For those worried about their privacy, Google says the information isn’t being used to train its AI. But it’s worth noting that you have to allow Gemini to access some of Google’s services. Google also says that titles and URLs of the pages you activate the feature “may be reviewed by humans.”
Part of a larger update
That being said, this isn’t the only autofill update we’ve seen made to Chrome. Just last month, Google announced that Chrome on mobile can now pull information from Google Wallet. It also supports filling in information like passport and driver’s license details.
That being said, we don’t know when this update is expected to roll out. Since it’s part of Chrome Canary, it means it currently only exists as a test. We’ve seen Google try out new features in Canary only to pull it. But this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this Gemini-powered autofill update. Hopefully we’ll see it implemented sooner rather than later.
