Google is making its Pixel phones a lot more useful for daily video calls. With a fresh update to the Pixel Camera Services app rolling out on the Play Store, the company is bringing its Pixel’s multi-camera Connected Camera feature to 11 new apps, including heavy hitters like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
Connected Camera lets Pixel owners connect their phone to another Pixel device or even a GoPro. Instead of being stuck with a single camera angle during a call or stream, you can jump back and forth between two camera views in real time, all while using the native filters and visual effects of whatever app you are in.
Moving past social media into everyday work tools
When Google first introduced this feature, it only worked on social platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat. That was handy for creators streaming on the go, but it left out people who spend most of their workday in video meetings or group messaging chats.
The new update (version 4.1.977867365.00) fixes that gap by adding compatibility for 11 productivity and chat apps: Google Meet, Gmail, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Telegram, Skype for Business, WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Facebook Messenger, and Discord (via Android Authority).
16 supported apps and counting
This latest batch bumps the total number of supported apps from five up to 16. That means if you want to run a live product demo on Microsoft Teams, hang out in a Discord server, or send a quick video update on WhatsApp, you can switch camera angles on the fly without downloading buggy third-party plugins.
Not everyone needs a multi-camera setup for a casual catch-up, but having the option built right into your phone makes a massive difference when you want to show a second view during a live presentation. The update is landing automatically through the Google Play Store on supported Pixel phones.
