A new Pixel Buds Pro 2 update for the month of May is here, though this isn’t necessarily a “May update” and is more just a software update that happened to drop in the last few days of the month. That aside, this is the first software update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and the Pixel Buds 2a since last Fall. That particular update was a big Pixel Feature Drop that included several new changes.
For instance, it added a new Adaptive Audio option. This would be in addition to the already available Active Noise Cancelling and Transparency modes that were in the app since the launch of the earbuds. There were gesture features as well, and a couple of noise reduction enhancements. This update doesn’t appear to be as big as that one.
The May 2026 Pixel Buds Pro 2 update is rolling out slowly
It’s worth noting that while this update most certainly seems to be starting to hit devices, it’s not rolling it out to everyone yet. 9To5Google, who initially reported on the update, has mentioned it being available, but also that it is not rolling out widely. The update doesn’t appear to be available on my own personal Pixel Buds Pro 2, so this is confirmed. If you own a pair yourself, or a pair of the Pixel Buds 2a which is also getting the update, you may or may not see this one available at this time.
Interestingly, the official support page for the update that mentions its details, which are reportedly minimal, has been pulled down for some reason or another. It seems likely that maybe Google wasn’t ready to post that update page, but it’s unclear why the support page was pulled. According to the report, though, this update is only about general bug fixes and improvements, so nothing too exciting.
