We’re seeing reports of yet another issue with Google Home, but this time it’s affecting the iOS platform. It seems like a weird bug in the Google Home app for iOS is turning smart lights on across users’ homes whenever they open the app. This issue comes shortly after the company rolled out a major Google Home update with third-party camera support and performance improvements. This new bug, however, is leaving iPhone/iPad users frustrated.

Going into details, users on Reddit report that launching the Google Home app on iOS causes connected smart lights, including dimmers, bulbs, and LED strips, to turn on automatically. Without the user doing anything from their side manually. It gets worse. Even after turning them off manually, the app reportedly turns them back on a few seconds later.
On a positive note, this behavior is reportedly happening only on the iOS version of the app. The affected users note that the Android app and the Google Home web interface are working normally.
There’s no workaround for this, unfortunately
Reports highlight that the glitch is triggering connected hardware from Govee, Philips Hue, Tapo, Kasa, and others. This means the bug does not seem to be limited to a single smart home provider. Even users who connect their devices through hub bridges are seeing similar behavior.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no reliable workaround at this time. Some users have tried unlinking their third-party accounts or force-quitting the app, while others have resorted to unplugging their smart lights. It looks like users will have to deal with it until there’s a permanent fix. Speaking of which, Google hasn’t acknowledged the bug just yet. But as always, we will share an update once there’s a fix for this.
