We have all been there: You spend ten minutes crafting the perfect AI prompt to summarize a complex research paper or convert a recipe into a vegan version, only to realize you have to retype or copy-paste that same instruction every time you visit a new tab. Google is finally putting an end to this repetitive cycle with a new feature called Skills reaching its Chrome browser.
Google Chrome’s Skills: Your personal AI toolbox for online browsing
The browser‘s Skills feature aims to allow you to save, reuse, and even remix your favorite AI workflows. Instead of starting from scratch, you can now save a successful prompt directly from your Gemini chat history. Once saved, triggering that specific task is as easy as typing a forward slash (/) in the Gemini side panel.
According to Google, the feature isn’t just limited to the page you are currently reading. You can actually select multiple tabs to run a Skill simultaneously. This is a massive time-saver for tasks like comparing technical specs across different shopping sites or scanning several lengthy PDFs at once for specific data points.
Chrome’s skills library and customization
For those who aren’t quite ready to build their own prompts from scratch, Google is launching a Skills Library. This collection includes ready-to-use workflows for common daily tasks. These can be useful for various use cases. For example, shoppers can generate side-by-side comparisons of products. For health, users can quickly request to calculate protein macros for any recipe found online. Researchers will also find it useful in situations where they need to scan documents to obtain high-priority information, for example.
One of the most interesting aspects is the ability to “remix” these library skills. If a pre-made prompt is almost what you need but requires a slight tweak to fit your specific workflow, you can save it to your personal list and edit the instructions accordingly.

Privacy and availability
Privacy-wise, Google emphasizes that Skills are built on Chrome’s existing security foundation. For actions that involve personal data—like drafting an email or adding a date to your calendar—the system will always require manual confirmation before executing the task.
The rollout for Skills begins today for desktop users on macOS, Windows, and Chrome OS. Currently, it is available for users signed into Gemini with English-US as their set language. If you don’t see it yet, don’t worry; it may take a few days to reach every device.
