Google app’s Voice Search is getting a major upgrade with some really useful features that can make it worth using. This new design was spotted by the folks at Android Authority earlier this month and is now reportedly rolling out to everyone with Google app v17.33.3, making the often-overlooked search option a little more useful. Here’s what’s new.
Google app’s Voice Search upgrade adds a new ‘Auto search’ on or off toggle
For what it’s worth, Google Voice Search wasn’t always the most refined. If you pause while speaking, it automatically assumes you’re done and starts searching. This pain point is now finally going away with the new update. Google app’s new Voice Search interface gets a new auto search on/off toggle. This lets you turn “Auto search” off so you can finish your full query, even with pauses, before the search runs. You now don’t have the pressure to get your query out in one go.
The screenshots shared by Android Authority show the new toggle in a pill container. Interestingly, the listening animation is also changing now. This sort of works like a visual confirmation when you swap modes.

There’s more
While this itself is a pretty handy upgrade, there are some extra additions as well. The new “Auto search” is now present right above four new additional buttons: Search, Live, Song, and Translate. These could function as mode switchers. The first is “Search,” which could function like a regular Google Search. The “Live” presumably opens the Gemini Live interface. Then there’s “Song,” which should help with song recognition. This was already present in previous versions of Google Voice Search, but is now a mode. Lastly, there’s “Translate,” which will translate words it hears into another language for convenience.
While some of these were already present in the Google app, they could be easy to miss. With this new Google app’s Voice Search upgrade, the new options are right on the main page.
