
With the launch of the 2nm Exynos 2600, it feels like Samsung’s chipsets are finally catching up to the competition. However, if there is one area that’s still lacking, it would be the clock speeds. However, according to the latest rumors, it suggests that the upcoming Exynos 2700 could feature a clock speed of 4.2GHz.
Exynos 2700 clock speed might surprise us all
This is according to a post on X by user Schrödinger. According to the post, they claim the Exynos 2700 could achieve a clock speed of 4.2GHz. Why is this a big deal? For starters, none of Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have crossed the 4.0GHz barrier yet. Even the latest Exynos 2600 has a clock speed of 3.8GHz.
For context, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has a maximum clock speed of up to 4.61GHz. Even the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 blows past the Exynos 2600, with a max clock speed of up to 4.21GHz. So, if Samsung can push past the 4.0GHz threshold, it would put them on more even footing with the competition.
That being said, it’s not a guarantee yet. According to the post, this is only if Samsung’s SF2P yields can go beyond 65-70%. But why does the yield matter when it comes to clock speed? This is because sometimes there are flaws or imperfections during the manufacturing process.
These flaws or imperfections might not ruin a chip entirely, but it might be forced to run slower to remain stable. If Samsung brings its yields up, it means it can produce faster chips more reliably. Whether Samsung can achieve this remains to be seen. But we imagine it won’t be a good look for them if they can’t.
What else can we expect?
Based on the rumors, the Exynos 2700 will continue using Samsung’s 2nm process. Samsung is also focusing on improving thermal performance, addressing the overheating issue found in the Exynos 2600. The company seems to be heavily invested in using its chips for its own phones.
According to earlier reports, Samsung is targeting 50% of its Galaxy S27 units to use its chipset. This will make Samsung less reliant on Qualcomm and TSMC, going down a similar path as Apple.
