Beyond performance, camera, battery, and design upgrades, Apple is also placing strong emphasis on the display. The goal here is to further shrink the black bezels to give a seamless experience. The upcoming iPhone Ultra (foldable) and 20th anniversary iPhone might push display innovations further. But besides these, it looks like Apple has something else in the works. A new leak claims that the tech giant has a next-generation screen called “Liquid Glass Display” in the works, and this could effectively make the iPhone bezel disappear.
Apple’s ‘Liquid Glass Display’ tech may make iPhone bezels invisible
Tipster Ice Universe, who has a reliable track record when it comes to leaks, in a new post on X says that Apple’s next-generation screen will be “Liquid Glass Display.” He emphasizes that this isn’t a regular quad-curved display, nor will it resemble the curved screen solutions seen on many Android phones over the years. Instead, the curvature itself could be extremely subtle, as per the tipster.
He says the display will use a combination of optical refraction, light guiding structures, and “carefully engineered” visual illusion to make the bezel nearly disappear. He also claims that edge viewing stays “natural and undisturbed,” appearing to flow like a liquid. Ice Universe says that this could be an entirely new display language.
Entirely new display language
Having said that, the leak sounds like this is Apple’s plan for the future. This suggests we won’t see this display tech in the immediate models, such as the iPhone 18 series. Also, the leak doesn’t mention anything about timing or other specifics of the display tech at the moment. But the “next-generation display” wording possibly hints that it could be for the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027. Although we can’t be certain.
Recent reports note that Apple is tapping Samsung for a bezel-less micro-curved OLED display for its 20th anniversary iPhone. That said, this is just a leak, so we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt.
