At the WWDC 2026 event, Apple TV users got more than a passing mention. While iOS 27, Siri AI, and macOS 27 Golden Gate were in the spotlight, Apple also announced tvOS 27 with a bunch of upgrades that will make the Apple TV experience faster, smarter, and easier to use. In fact, the tech giant is also rolling out the first developer beta of tvOS 27 today.
Apple announces tvOS 27 with revamped Podcasts app, faster Apple TV performance and more
Among the highlights confirmed by Apple, tvOS 27 will bring the redesigned Podcasts app. The company didn’t show off any screenshots or go into detail about what the redesign looks like. However, Apple confirmed that the Podcasts app will get a new experience on Apple TV later this year. Considering the wording, we expect some major changes within the app.
Next on the list for Apple TV users is Smart Downloads. Apple says that the upcoming tvOS 27 feature will automatically manage and download content for users. Again, Apple is keeping most of the details under wraps. However, it appears that the company will improve content access across devices. Moving on, the company also says that Apple TV’s performance is another major focus of the next big update.
Apple says that tvOS 27 will ensure faster app launches, smoother animations, and a more responsive Control Center experience. What’s interesting is that AirPlay connectivity with Apple TV and HomePod will likely get faster than before. The company has also confirmed that tvOS 27 will bring larger text sizes and add AppleCare coverage information inside the Settings app.
The first developer beta is available today
The first developer beta of tvOS 27 is now available for Apple TV 4K users via a software update. As a reminder, users no longer need a paid developer account to access developer betas. Since beta builds often come with bugs, it’s always recommended to install them on your non-primary Apple TV. The tech giant has further confirmed that a public beta is scheduled for July. Whereas the final release will land alongside the major updates scheduled this fall.
