Apple Maps is getting ready to show ads to its users in the US and Canada. Businesses can now book their campaigns ahead of the launch and claim promotional offers. Apple has begun selling ad placements for its Maps starting today, i.e., August 14. Interested firms can secure their placements before customers begin to see them.
Apple Maps starts selling ad slots to businesses
Businesses can now officially book their campaigns through Apple’s advertising site. However, the ad won’t appear immediately and will go live only after the official launch. The services are expected to go live later this year. Moreover, as part of its promotional offer, Apple is offering a “Grand Opening Promo” to eligible businesses.
Companies that pay by credit card and book by October 11 can receive up to 15% back as a monthly statement credit for up to 12 months. The credit is applied the following month and is capped at $1,000 per month for qualifying campaign spend.
As of right now, the tech giant plans to put ads in two different places inside the app. Before a user searches, ads will appear in Suggested Places on the search screen. After a search, businesses can show up in results when their listing is relevant to what the person searched for. The idea is pretty simple: the ads will be placed close to the point where someone is looking for a business.
More than one billion business searches happen on Apple Maps
Apple has officially claimed that more than one billion relevant business searches happen on Maps each month. Moreover, one in two searches for a business leads to user action, or another response. This figure may attract businesses to place their ads on the platform.
Further, Apple has said the move closely aligns with its privacy-focused nature. The ads will be matched using contextual information such as search terms and approximate location. For users, the main change will be seeing paid business listings in places where they already look for recommendations.
