Apple iPhone Duo Buyers Guide

Apple has finally done it; they have announced their first foldable. On September 9, 2026, Apple finally entered the foldable game with the iPhone Duo. And in this buyer’s guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about it.

The iPhone Duo will cost you $1,999, and pre-orders will begin on October 16.

Apple iPhone Duo Specs

As usual, Apple doesn’t release a lot of the hardcore specs, like battery capacity, charging speed, or RAM. So we’ve filled out what we know here.

We know that the iPhone Duo will be powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a 2nm chipset manufactured by TSMC. It will also feature a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display, with two batteries. Apple is not disclosing the battery size, but they are quoting 31 hours of video on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer display. Which puts it right in line with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

iPhone Duo will also be fairly heavy at 254g, measuring 5.2mm unfolded and 11.3mm folded. So it’s not really competing with Samsung here, which is a whole lot lighter and thinner. But it does have IP68 dust and water resistance, which is a big deal — only Google and HONOR have reached that IP level on a foldable.

How much does the Apple iPhone Duo Cost?

The iPhone Duo will start at $1,999. Which is cheaper than we were expecting, given the current RAM crisis going on, that’s affecting everything. That puts it $100 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and $100 less than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

At $1,999, you’re getting 256GB of storage. For 512GB, that will cost you $2,199; 1TB will be $2,599, and 2TB will be $3,199.

Where can I buy the iPhone Duo?

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo start on October 16, with shipping by October 23. The best place to buy the new iPhone Duo will be Apple’s website, but all carriers and retailers should also have the device in late October. While Apple didn’t say it would be limited, we’d fully expect the iPhone Duo to have limited supply.

This year, you have the option of buying it unlocked or through your carrier at the Apple Store, you can also lease it with Apple Upgrade in 12- or 24-month installments, or finance it in 12 month installments with your Apple Card. So there’s more ways than ever to buy your new iPhone Duo.

What carriers does the iPhone Duo work on?

It should come as no surprise that the iPhone Duo does work on all three major carrier networks in the US. That’s AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Obviously, that also means that it will work on all MVNOs. Like the iPhone Air last year, the iPhone Duo is also eSIM-only.

What colors does the iPhone Duo come in?

For the iPhone Duo, Apple is doing two colors of the phone this time around. So we have Star White and Night Sky.

Both colors have polished titanium rails, but the white model has a more mirror-like finish on the rails, whereas the blue has a more black finish. So it shouldn’t show scratches as easily. I’m a little biased, but I think that Night Sky color is the one to get. It looks pretty similar to the blue that is on the iPhone 17 Pro Max as well.

What’s new with iPhone Duo versus regular slab-style iPhones?

Of course, the big change here is actually the size and the fact that it folds. The iPhone Duo has a smaller outer screen, at 5.4 inches and an aspect ratio of around 16:11, while the inner 7.6-inch display is about 1.42:1, closer to a book-size aspect ratio. This makes things very different for the iPhone Duo, which Apple says it is working with developers to adapt their apps to this new aspect ratio.

After nearly 10 years, the iPhone Duo brings Touch ID back to the iPhone. Which is what we expected to see with its first foldables, since Face ID would take up a good amount of space on that smaller screen. The power button sits on the side of the phone with Touch ID built in, like the iPad Air. The volume rocker is on the top of the phone. A bit strange, but because the iPhone Duo is fairly short, there’s not much space for the volume rocker on the side.

Apple is using a custom nano-texture finish on the iPhone Duo that reduces reflections and minimizes the visibility of creases. This doesn’t eliminate the crease, but it makes it much harder to see. Which is what we need to see. They are also using a titanium plate beneath the display, as Samsung does, to improve durability. This also helps to eliminate the crease and any waviness.

What cases are available for the iPhone Duo?

Apple is starting off with two cases for the iPhone Duo. There’s a silicone case that will cost you $79, and it’s available in navy blue and sand colors. The iPhone Duo folio case with kickstand is going to cost you $129 in navy blue and taupe colors.

Of course, other case makers will be making cases for the iPhone Duo. Including dbrand, Casetify, Nomad, and many more.

Should you buy the iPhone Duo?

It’s hard to say right now, but one thing we do know is that Apple are going to be very quick to adopt the aspect ratios of both screens on the iPhone Duo. So we won’t need to worry about apps not being supported, as we see on other Android foldables.

However, $2,000 is a lot of money for a phone, whether it folds or not. And with how heavy this iPhone Duo is and how thick it is, some might want to spend that money elsewhere.
