Apple just confirmed another major launch event for this fall, inviting journalists and content creators to Los Angeles on October 28 for a showcase tagged “Pro and Tell.” The sudden announcement comes right on the heels of the company’s smart home showcase in New York. There, Apple introduced the HomeView display, the HomePod mini 2, and a refreshed Apple TV 4K.
Touchscreen MacBook Pros take center stage
The biggest news expected from the Los Angeles stage centers on Apple’s long-rumored dive into touchscreen laptops. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to unveil completely redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring bright OLED displays, a Dynamic Island, and a noticeably lighter frame. Driven by Apple’s new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, these flagship laptops will bring direct touch controls to macOS hardware for the very first time.
Overhauling the compact iPad mini hardware
Laptops aren’t the only devices getting a big refresh at the show. Apple is also preparing to unveil a heavily updated iPad mini. Industry leaks suggest the compact tablet will jump to a vibrant OLED screen, adopt an upgraded speaker setup, and move its FaceTime camera to the landscape edge so video calls feel far more natural. Those physical tweaks match recent regulatory filings for a new Smart Folio case, hinting that the new tablet layout will make older covers obsolete.
M6 chip upgrades for iMac and entry MacBook Pro
Apple also plans to update its mainstream desktop and entry-level laptop lines during the event. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro and the all-in-one iMac will both gain Apple’s fast M6 processor. The company debuted this chip recently inside the updated Mac mini. While both machines will keep their current exterior designs, the internal chip upgrade promises a nice bump in daily performance for creative workloads.
Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak shared the event invite on social media. He teased an all-day hands-on experience in Los Angeles. Moving the venue away from Cupertino shows that Apple wants to put these touch-capable laptops and portable OLED screens straight into the hands of entertainment professionals and creative power users.
