The way we use AI has evolved tremendously. It used to be that we used AI as a glorified search engine, but these days, many of us are using AI to automate tasks. Now, if responding to emails feels like a monumental task for you, don’t worry. A recent update to Claude now lets it send Gmail emails on your behalf.
Claude can now send emails from Gmail for you
According to a post on X, the Anthropic team has announced an update to Claude which can now send Gmail emails for you. All you need to do is ask Claude to reply to an email thread. The AI will then write up a draft and send it for you.
However, if you’re worried Claude is going to hallucinate and send some gibberish, you can relax. This is because Anthropic is making asking for approval enabled by default. This makes sure Claude asks for your approval first before sending, if you want that extra peace of mind. However, if the response is simple and straight to the point, you can disable it.
In addition, Claude can also help users manage files in Google Drive. All you need to do is make sure you connect your Gmail and Google Drive account to Claude. Anthropic also notes that this feature is only available for users on paid plans. Those who are using Claude for free will have to sit this one out, for now.
What are Claude connectors?
For those unfamiliar, AI models like Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT have features that allow you to connect it to external apps and services. In Claude’s case, they’re called connectors. These connectors allow Claude to connect and integrate with third-party apps and services, like Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, Canva, Notion, Microsoft 365, and more.
This means that you can ask Claude to do something for you, like send a message in Slack at a certain time of the day. Or in the case of Gmail, you can ask it to find emails for you and reply to them. This could be useful if you have a bunch of emails that you need to send out and you don’t want to do it one by one.
However, AI is still far from perfect. It can sometimes get it wrong. So it might be a good idea to ask it to ask for approval before firing off that email.
