Samsung started rolling out the Android 17-based One UI 9 update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 less than a week ago in Korea, and the update is now global. As per usual, it did not take Samsung long to make that happen.
One UI 9 for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Flip 5 is now global
Europe is amongst the first regions to get it, though it’s spread to all parts of the world now. It’s only a matter of time before your region gets it. There’s a good chance it will take only a couple of days before it spreads to a ton of other regions.
This update brings Android 17, while Samsung has included some new features/functionality in One UI 9.0. This update adds more customizability to the Quick Panel, as you can now resize everything and tune it to your liking.
My FanCam has been added, along with new AI features
My FanCam has also been added for automatically tracking people in videos. Now Nudge has been improved, and customizable Now Brief cards are also included. A deeper Gemini integration is also here, along with new AI features.
This update enhances Samsung Notes, Interpreter, Document Scan, and Voice Recorder, while also bringing a Warranty and Care section to the phone. Samsung DeX has been improved, and the same goes for security and privacy protections.
Your phone will let you know once the update has landed. You can, however, check manually as well, if you want. You can do that via Settings -> Software update -> Check for updates.
The update weighs several gigabytes
We still don’t know how large the update package is, but it was quite considerable for Korea, and there’s a good chance it’s similar to that globally. Expect several gigabytes worth of data. So you may want to be connected to a Wi-Fi network before you kick off the update itself.
