Following its initial launch in Korea, the Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update for the Galaxy S23 series has spread to global markets. Not all markets are getting it just yet, but the update is spreading as we speak.
Global rollout of One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S23 series has started
As is usually the case, Europe was the first region that started getting the update, following Korea. Beta users were in the first wave, but at this point, it’s easily possible that everyone in Europe is getting the update.
Do note that the update is staged; however, so even if it’s rolling out in Europe, it may take some time to reach your device. Be patient. Your phone will let you know once the update is ready, though you can always manually check via Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
The update size for beta users is 516.69MB, though it will be considerably larger for non-beta users. You can count on several gigabytes worth of data, so being connected to Wi-Fi may not be a bad move if you’re not on an unlimited data plan.
One UI 9.0 is not the most massive update Samsung released in recent years, but it’s quite considerable. It brings a new version of Android along with it, not to mention some new features/functionality.
A more customizable Quick Panel is included, along with new accessibility options
A more customizable Quick Panel is a part of the update, as you can resize basically everything and tune it to your liking. Samsung has improved both Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes, and the same goes for accessibility options.
New AI features are also included in the update, and a deeper Gemini integration as well. A location privacy indicator is included as well, and more.
This update is coming to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. All three of those phones arrived in February 2023 with Android 13-based One UI 5.1. Considering that Samsung promised four major Android OS updates, this is probably the last one they’ll receive. They should be getting security updates for one more year, though.
