Amazon has launched ‘Alexa Podcasts’, a new feature for Alexa Plus that creates AI-generated podcasts on any topic in just minutes. It apparently transforms vast amounts of content into digestible, personalized audio content. With this launch, Alexa Plus is entering the podcast space, which seems to be a growing trend these days. The company is promoting this as a new way to turn your curiosity into engaging audio content on demand, with no documents or prep work needed.

Amazon is partnering with leading news publications, such as Associated Press, Reuters, the Washington Post, TIME, Forbes, Business Insider, Politico, USA Today, and publications from Condé Nast, Hearst, and Vox Media; and more than 200 local newspapers across the U.S. Instead of searching through, users can simply tell Alexa what topic they’re curious about, and it does the rest in minutes.
Alexa+ will pull together the relevant information, present an overview of what it plans to cover, and even let you adjust the length and direction before generating the episode. If you’re happy with the plan, Alexa creates a recording with AI-generated host voices. Once the episode is ready, users will receive a notification on their Echo Show device and the Alexa app. Users can also find it later in the Music and More section.
Covers various topics and multiple use cases
Alexa Podcasts covers a wide range of topics. Right from trending news, sports highlights, and music releases to movies, letting users generate custom episodes on whatever interests them. The feature also enables at-home learning by creating podcast episodes on curiosity-sparking subjects like Apollo missions or how shooting stars work, which families can listen to together or consume on the go.
Another use case that the tech giant points out is travel prep. Users can create audio lessons about their next travel destination. This way, they’ll arrive knowing the stories behind what they’re seeing. Users can also dive deep into a new hobby by generating an episode about, say, homebrewing, drone photography, etc. For careers, users can generate episodes that matter for their job.
Available to Alexa+ customers
Alexa Podcasts is available to Alexa+ customers in the US. As a refresher, Alexa+ is bundled at no additional cost for Prime members in the US. For non-Prime members, it’s $19.99 per month. Additionally, the company says it’s also exploring ways to enable users to create various types of custom audio on demand. This ranges from personalized news briefings to content generated from information and documents users want to share.
