Motorola announced the Edge 70 Max handset earlier this month, and it managed to confuse a lot of people with conflicting information on software support. Well, Motorola has now decided to clear the air.
The Motorola Edge 70 Max will get up to 3 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates
Motorola’s representative confirmed that the Edge 70 Max comes with up to 3 Android OS upgrades and up to 5 years of security support. Along with that, there was also a statement included.
Here’s the full statement: “Lenovo and Motorola Mobility are committed to meeting the principles set out in the Lot X regulation and will continue to provide security, corrective and functionality updates to our phones and tablets, to help ensure the longevity and operation of our products. We are working to further enhance the longevity of our products through enhanced repair and OS update policies (governing security, corrective, and functionality updates).”
Product pages caused unnecessary confusion
What caused this confusion? Well, the product pages on Motorola’s websites stated that the phone would get up to 3 Android OS updates and 5 years’ worth of security updates. Then, in the footnotes, it was claimed that 2 Android OS updates are coming, and 3 years of security updates.
Needless to say, this is immensely confusing as one statement is going directly against the other. Motorola did not explain how the confusion happened. It’s possible those footnotes were copied from product pages of other devices. We’re only guessing, of course.
As a reminder, the Motorola Edge 70 Max arrived with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip. It also offers up to 12GB of RAM, a 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, and 90W charging. 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging is on board, along with a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate.
