Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel managed to get his hands on the iPhone Duo, and we all know what that means. The Apple iPhone Duo durability test is upon us, and many people have been waiting for.
The Apple iPhone Duo fails the durability test(s)
Spoiler alert! The iPhone Duo does not survive this one. Let’s start from the top, though. The display scratch test is first in line, as usual. The first test is on the outer display, the one with proper glass protection.
The Ceramic Shield Glass protects that display, and it does a great job. The faintest scratch marks show up when a level 7 pick is used, which is great and above the industry standard.
The nano texture on the main display does hide scratches well, but that display is, much like any other foldable panel, susceptible to scratches. It scratches with a level 2 pick, which is per course for foldable panels. Yes, you can scratch this one with a fingernail.
The matte plastic layer mutes the colors by quite a bit
Zack also removed the matte plastic from the inner display (on a separate Duo unit, to keep the durability test untainted) in order to show us how muted the colors are with it on. Yes, it helps with the glare, in a way, but it also mutes the colors by quite a margin.
He also proved that the frame is made out of metal and that the buttons are not removable, unlike the ones on Samsung phones. The next test was the… dirt test. The iPhone Duo is IP68 certified, so…it should be able to handle it.
The thing is, Zack did place quite a bit of dirt on the phone, as he usually does in such tests. That dirt did prevent the hinge from closing. Once again, don’t play with foldables in the sand, regardless of their IP rating.
The inner display lasted about 10 seconds before burning when exposed to a flame, while the outer display lasted for about 20 seconds, and it did not suffer any damage in the process.
When bent, the display got damaged and stopped responding
And then we come to the bend test. The phone did bend more than expected, and a green line appeared on the main display. Bending it again caused two additional lines to appear, while a bit later the display became unresponsive. So it did worse than the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
